Quazi Tarikul Islam was born in October, 1954. He studied Medicine at Rajshahi Medical College and graduated in 1981. He qualified his FCPS in Internal Medicine in July 1987. Dr. Islam served as Consultant of Medicine from 1987 to 1991at District Hospital. He joined as Assistant Professor at Rajshahi Medical College in 1991 untill 1993 when he left the country on lien to Saudi Arabia to serve as Medicine Specialist and worked there up to 1998. After returning back to home he joined at Rajshahi Medical College. In 2003, he was promoted as Associate Professor and in 2007 he became Professor of Medicine and head of the Department of Medicine in the same Institute. In 2009 he joined at Dhaka Medical College as Professor of Medicine and retired from job in October 2011. After retirement, he joined in Popular Medical College (Private) as Professor of Medicine. More than 100 postgraduate trainees took clinical training & about 60 dissertations and thesis have been completed under his supervision. He is taking MBBS examination for more than 25 years. He is an Examiner for postgraduates, MCPS, MD, FCPS at home. In 2010 he became an External examiner for post graduate Saudi Medical Board exam. He was the External Thesis Examiner of AIIMS, India in 2016. During his academic career, he delivered more than 75 speeches on medical science at local and international conferences. He used to talk about medical issues in different TV channels regularly for public awareness. He attended many international conferences abroad and presented scientific papers. He has 109 publications in national and international journals to his credit. He held the post of assistant editor, executive editor, editor in chief and chairman of the Editorial board of different journals of Bangladesh and also a reviewer of many international journals. He was involved in editorial work for many national guidelines. Dr. Islam is the Editor in Chief of National Guideline for Dengue Fever (3rd edition). He received the fellowship from American College of Physicians in 2004, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2008 and Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 2009. He is a Councilor and immediate past Controller of examination of Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons. Presently Dr. Islam is the Treasurer of the College. He also served as Regional Technical Adviser in SEARO, WHO for Dengue fever. He is the immediate past president of Bangladesh Society of Medicine and current Governor of American College of Physicians – Bangladesh Chapter.
