Eileen D. Barrett, MD, MPH, FHM, FACP, is a member of the Board of Regents of the American College of Physicians (ACP), the national organization of internists. Her term began during Internal Medicine Meeting 2016 - the ACP annual scientific meeting in Washington, D.C. The Board of Regents is the main policy-making body of the College.
A resident of Albuquerque, N.M., Dr. Barrett is a hospitalist in the Department of Internal Medicine and the Director of Graduate Medical Education Wellness in the Office of Physician and Student Wellness at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Barrett has been a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) since 2011. FACP is an honorary designation that recognizes ongoing individual service and contributions to the practice of medicine. She has been an ACP member since 2003, was a Joseph E. Johnson Leadership Day Grant recipient in 2011 and 2012, served on the ACP Board of Governors from 2012 to 2016, and has served on several national ACP committees and task forces.
Board-certified in internal medicine, Dr. Barrett earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Union College and a medical degree from Georgetown University. She completed an internship and residency at Oregon Health and Science University Hospital in Portland, Oregon, and Rural Faculty Development Fellowship at the University of Arizona. She has also served as the President of the New Mexico Chapter of the Society of Hospital Medicine since 2016 and is an elected member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
Some areas of professional interest and expertise for Dr. Barrett include hospital medicine, medical education, immunizations, alcohol use disorders, global health and volunteerism, and promoting physician wellness and practice fulfillment.
