Bart Smet graduated from Leuven University as General Abdominal Surgeon in 1998.

Dr. Smet is now working as consultant in AZ Delta Roeselare which is a regional hospital with a capacity of 1200 beds.  He is board member of BGES and member of RBSS.

In the upper GI field he has a special interest in bariatric surgery (primary and redo).  He is a member of several expert panels organizing bariatric masterclasses and clinical emersions giving several presentations in Belgium and abroad.

Due to the analysis and publication of the long term results of performed sleeve gastrectomies in the department my initial enthousiasm for sleeves is moderated.  Using and presenting these results I try to let everybody think which direction we should go to with bariatric surgery in the future.
